The Alaskan Malamute is a new breed for Russia. The first pure-bred malamutes appeared in mid 1990s in Russia.
The first registered in RKF litter was whelped on
12.07.1999: sire YUKON DEI MERAVIGLIOSI NORDICI
(born 17.05.1997, Lariak dei Meravigliosi Nordici x Alaskanstar dei Meravigliosi Nordici),
imported from Italy, and dam AKELLA (born 01.04.1994.)
from Mexico without pedigree. The owner of these dogs was
Antonia Baratto worked for Embassy in Moscow. There were
7 puppies: 3 males (K`Gorkiy, K`Yukon, Kreg) and 4
females (Kimmy, Kella, Kzena, Kaja). K`Gorkiy was sold to
Italy. Female named Kimmy became one of the foundations
bitches in S LOSINOGO OSTROVA kennel. The next litter was
whelped in May 2000 from Italian dogs –
GREGORY DEL BIAGIO (Vykon`s Encore del Biagio x
Beker del Biagio) and LENA DEL BIAGIO
(Redflower del Biagio x Artica) in OT FILIPPOVOY kennel
(litter S.). The most famous of 9 puppies were Skif, Sven,
Suyum, Sayan, Snezhka, Sanny, Sibir`. Showed in
different Russian cities, the Gregory del Biagio
(call name «Grisha») arouse great interest among Russian dog-fanciers.

The Alaskan Malamute breeding centres became Moscow
and St. Petersburg. Kennels in Moscow: S LOSINOGO OSTROVA
(breeder Natalia Trofimova) and LEYU (breeder Evgeniya Akhtomova),
in St. Petersburg – OT FILIPPOVOY (breeder Natalia Filippova) and
DE ANRIT (breeder Margarita Andreeva). There were two
litters in ZAMOK SVYATOGO ANGELA kennel in Moscow.
Malamutes were actively imported in 1999-2002 in Russia.
In DE ANRIT kennel the main studs were: male

Naka Rafalova Sfora) and females LAW OF ALASKA HUK AMAROK
(Storm Cloud`s Hhudson Icy Wind õ Tajga Huk Amarok),

In S LOSINOGO OSTROVA kennel: male ISEWINDS BEAR, USA,
(Icewinds Sharper Image õ Ch. Kloudburst Designfur Icewind),
females KIMMY (mentioned above), ASER DEL BIAGIO
(Vykon`s Encore del Biagio õ Ingrid del Biagio) from
Italy, ISEWINDS UKKA (Showlion`s Ice Wind N`Fire x Icewinds Wild Silk) from the USA.
At the same time or so there were imported stud males
from Hungary: BESENYOI KEDVENC ALEX
(White Wolf Arnold õ Show Hill Peak Stella) and
ICY SNOWKING OF THE STORM (Icy Quincy At Nanook Spirit x
Icy Kelly-Key), from Italy - CONWELL DEL BIAGIO
(Royalstar del Biagio õ Junglanegraoperaprima del Biagio),
from Finland - MUKLUK YUKON (Una Nuna`s Luke Lionheart x Mukluk Uyamik).
All these dogs had litters in different combinations.
In OT FILIPPOVOY kennel there were 3 females from died at
early age GREGORY and LENA. To make a new breeding,
Natalia purchased well-bred and well-balanced charming
male DAWSON SAUSIMAYOK (Storm Cloud`s Hhudson Icy Wind õ
Comancha Huk Amarok) in Poland. «DANYA» is the call name
of that marvelous dog. He turned to be both gorgeous
show-dog and stud dog. His children from different
females are always recognizable and there are over 10
Champions of different countries among his offsprings.
DANYA was the first Int. Champion among malamutes in Russia.

Aside from the dogs purchased by breeders, there appeared
individual imported malamutes (both males and females)
in Russia. Sometimes they were purchased accidentally.
Some of them being showed once or twice, vanished into
thin air. Some of them had litters. For example,
ELSA ALRAUNA, BEARVVIS NERNARK (Snowstorm`s Stone Fox õ
Bearvvis Antena) from Finland, BIRDY THE BESTIAL FACE OF BEAUTY
(Coghinore Del Lago Degli Orsi õ Kaossuthfalvi Porly) and
ICY BARONESS (Chateau Val Bellaire Ukasse x Arnaluk Mikilak Aleutia)
from Hungary. The most famous among offsprings of these
dogs is a son of Icy Baroness (sire – Skif Ot Filippovoy)
- Int. Ch. AKBAR owned by ALVEIG kennel.
JWW-2001 Gala de Kabluna from Portugal kennel imported in Russia in
April 2005. In December from Gala and Sven Ot Filippovoy was born the
first litter. The most known dog from this litter is Ch.Elisey.

Year after year the malamutes became more popular in
Russia. This results in breeding of not well-bred dogs
with the only goal to have cute puppies. Growing up,
these dogs only vaguely resemble malamutes. Some of such
dogs are purchased by amateurs who do not know the
peculiarities of malamute owning. In opposition, there’re
devoted breeders aimed for well-bred dogs, which they show.
Great disunity of owners and breeders does not conduce
to breed developing. National Club work consists just of
the organization of Speciality shows. There’s no
in-printed books in Russian at all. There seldom appear
articles in printed press or notes in Club of Northern sled dogs.
Meanwhile, there appeared new imported dogs in Russia.
Female Gloris Ot Filippovoy (Dawson Sausimayok x Snezhka Ot Filippovoy)
was mated by Active del Biagio in 2005.

There were imported two half-sibs from Poland to Moscow
kennels: CHESVIK TOP – male SKYWALKER SAUSIMAYOK
(Brad Pitt Del Lago Degli Orsi x Destrukcja Sausimayok),
who has a successful start showing in Russia and abroad;
ALASKAN LEGEND – female KIOONA HUK AMAROK
(Brad Pitt Del Lago Degli Orsi x Colorado Huk Amarok).
ALVEIG kennel imported female SHOWLION NORTHERN LIGHTS ALVEIG
(Uyak Aleut Alex x Showlion`s Aniuyak Northern Lights) from the USA.
LEYU kennel imported a couple from the USA: female
WAKON"S MARLENE"S DREAM and male WAKON`S LEYU SUNNY WIND,
surprised the breeders by their large size and type.

There was imported a male from Canada:
KEIKEWABIC KIARANUK SCOOBY ROO
(Kiaranuk Keikewabic Spitimage x Sno Quest Keikewabik 2nd Chance).
In spite of short history of breed in Russia, we have
first Int.Ch.: bred in Poland -DAWSON SAUSIMAYOK and
NIAGARA HUK AMAROK, and bred in Russia –
SNEZHKA OT FILIPPOVOY, DIANA OT FILIPPOVOY,
GLORIS OT FILIPPOVOY, LEYU ERASIK, LEYU BLACK, LEYU AIRIS,
AKBAR, DENVER DREAM.
New kennels were established and started their work:
Alveig (breeder Polina Panyukova), Bairak Azskaz
(breeder Zudina), Alaskan Legend (breeder Lidiya Zuykova).

Malamute owners begin taking active part in canine sport.
Dogs owned by Natalia Filippova and Evgeniya Akhtomova
participate in sleddog races. Some of dogs go into
Skijoring and Canicross. For example, Leyu Black and his
son Ice Black, Akbar and his son Efim White Fang, Bolshoy
Vozhd` S Losinogo Ostrova, Conwell del Biagio in Moscow.
The ice is broken and I think sports with malamutes will develop.
